Your Bourbon tour begins this evening with a hands-on Mixology Class at Cooper & Kings before a welcome dinner at Harvest Distillery where you are invited to sample seasonal dishes paired with Kentucky Bourbon.   (D)

Wednesday, November 4:

Start your morning with a visit to one of the world’s premier thoroughbred horse farms.  See inside the plank fences and down the shady lanes of Central Kentucky for a glimpse of daily life of a working farm.  Learn about the history, tradition and pageantry of thoroughbred racing with a chance to see Derby winners and their training facilities and nurseries with foals (if available).

Next, visit one of Kentucky’s the oldest and smallest distilleries, the Woodford Reserve Distillery, home to a 500 foot-long gravity-fed barrel run.  Your guided tour explains the history of bourbon and it’s five sources of flavor.  Of course no tour is complete without a full tasting.  Lunch is included this afternoon at a local Grill & Pub before stopping for another visit and tasting at Buffalo Trace Distillery.  Walk amidst the path of rolling bourbon barrels while enjoying some of their award winning products.  (B, L)

Thursday, November 5:

Start the day out by visiting the Kentucky Derby Museum, where every day is Derby Day!  Begin with a 30 minute walking tour of historic Churchill Downs.  Next “experience” the 18 minute media experience known as, “The Greatest Race.”  Finally wander through the exhibits before proceeding to our next tasting.

Stitzel Weller Experience originally opened on Derby Day in 1935.  Guests will experience the past and celebrate the future.  Guests can see the warehouse where the Rickhousing system was invented in 1879. Stitzel-Weller also recently installed a state-of-the-art bottling line and a new small batch still to nurture inspired experimentation and education.  Rounding out the day we head out to the Old Forester, home to world’s first bottled bourbon.

Friday, November 6:

Start the day out by touring Star Hill Farms home to  Maker’s Mark Distillery.  Come explore the art of Bourbon-making that dates back 200 years with a tradition of hand-rotating every barrel and dipping every   bottle.

Spend the afternoon in Bardstown the “Most Beautiful Small Town in America” as named by USA Today.    Tour Bardstown Bourbon Company one of the most technically advanced distilleries in the country.  Next stop will be lunch at Bottle and Bond, located within the Bardstown Bourbon Company.

Ending your day with a visit to the newest additions to the Bourbon Trail, Heaven Hill Distillery.  Family owned and operated since 1935, this distillery offers a chance to learn about its heritage and culture.
